The City of Geneva began assembling acreage for Prairie Green Preserve after citizens approved the sale of $10 million in bonds for the purchase of land. Four farm parcels were acquired by the City between 1999 and 2002 totaling 360 acres.
These farm parcels included parts of the Anderson farm, Fisher farm, McLaughlin farm, and Weber farm. An additional parcel, the 80-acre Lindquist property, was acquired with Kane County Forest Preserve district in 2002.
In 2003, the City accepted 140 acres of surplus land from the Illinois Department of Corrections. These land acquisitions brought Prairie Green Preserve to its current 580 acre total.
