[ARCHIVED] Winter Weather Advisory Extended: Plowing Will Continue Throughout The Evening

With the forecast calling for between 4 to 8 inches of snow starting this afternoon into New Year's Day, the City's snow parking regulations will be enforced. Please remove your parked cars from the streets to help with our snow plow efforts.

As always, our Public Works Department crews' top priority will be removing snow from our designated "Snow Emergency Routes," which are the main thoroughfares throughout the City. Once those are cleared, efforts will turn to plowing residential streets, cul-de-sacs and dead-ends.

A Winter Weather Advisory for Kane County has been issued from 4 p.m. today through 6 p.m. Jan. 1.

This potential snow will coincide with New Year's Eve celebrations. If you will be out on New Year's Eve, and the forecast comes to fruition, the Geneva Police Department urges you to please consider these driving safety tips:

Assure that you leave plenty of time for travel, wear your seatbelt, leave a safe distance between you and other vehicles on the roadway, give snow plows adequate room to work, and do not drink and drive. If you are planning on consuming alcoholic beverages, use a designated driver or taxi service. Please travel and celebrate safely. Please do your part to assure that 2014 starts off on a positive note!

Latest Update:

January 1, 2014 5:27 PM

The Winter Weather Advisory has been extended until midnight as more snow is expected to reach our area tonight.

The City's entire snow plowing crew has been hitting the streets today to keep driving conditions as good as possible given the constant snowfall. The focus has been keeping snow routes clear, but plows have started to pass through residential areas to clear a path for motorists.

Plows will be working throughout the evening. Once the snow stops, snow routes will be finished and plows will head back to residential neighborhoods. Please be patient as our Public Works Department clears 244 lane miles throughout the City.

Please use caution when driving, and keep your parked cars off the streets. Thank you.

Prior Updates

January 1, 2014 8:29 AM

Happy New Year's Geneva. The first storm system appears to have moved through our area. Our Public Works crews were plowing throughout the evening, and are expected to have both primary snow routes and residential streets completed this morning.

This may only be temporary given that another snow system is expected to develop later today that could produce several more inches of snow. The total snow fall, including last night, could reach up to 6 inches. The Winter Weather Advisory still is in place until 6 p.m. tonight, so please be careful when traveling.

We will have crews working during the day to keep our primary snow routes cleared. Please leave room for plows to operate on our busier streets.

With more snow coming, please leave your parked cars off the streets today. The latest weather forecast is in the link below.
