Dear Neighbors,
We wanted to take a moment to update you on the steps being taken to mitigate the odor being emitted occasionally from a machine at Burgess-Norton. First and foremost, Burgess-Norton is targeting the removal of this equipment to occur the first week in April.
While there continues to be a periodic odor relative to this equipment, the oils that have been used in the process are not hazardous. We continue to look at any and all options to further abate the odor. The current oil being used is Lubsoil Gundrill; odors from the oil are objectionable, but are not harmful to human health. The Material Safety Data Sheet for this oil may be found on our website at www.burgessnorton.com.
The particular equipment that has been the source of this odor is targeted to leave our facility the first week in April, we have taken a number of steps to control and isolate the odor as best as possible. In early November we installed an odor removal system utilizing carbon absorption. In addition we fully enclosed all emission points from the equipment.
As we recognized some of these initial steps taken were not as successful as they could be, we took steps to further improve the control process. As a result, preventative maintenance procedures have been implemented to ensure the odor removal equipment operates efficiently and effectively.
We will continue to implement these measures until the equipment is removed from the facility.
We appreciate and understand the aggravation this issue may have caused. The removal of this equipment remains a priority in our organization.
Regards,
