The City of Geneva's Building and Zoning Division is responsible for issuing building permits for all types of new construction projects, as well as certain required remodeling/maintenance projects. City staff reviews the applications, construction plans and plats of survey to ensure compliance with local, state and national standards as recognized by the adopted codes. City staff also inspects the construction work and provides technical assistance to residents and contractors. Below is a list of types of projects that require a building permit. Each project type is linked to an informational handout to use as a guide for the specific project. For any property that is a designated landmark or within the Historic District, a Historic Preservation Review Application is to be submitted and approval is required by the Historic Preservation Commission prior to obtaining a permit through the Building Division.
