Project Description
This project involves the routing of cracks in pavement then sealing the crack with a compound. City parking lots are first crack sealed and then seal coated. This process helps prevent water infiltration into the pavement base which subsequently extends the pavement life. Streets and parking lots are selected for crack sealing based on the current condition of the pavement and the cost/benefit of sealing the cracks.
Good candidates for crack sealing are pavements with minor to moderate cracking. It is not cost effective to seal heavily cracked streets; instead, those streets are placed on a list for rehabilitation.

Project Schedule
Bids for this project were opened on April 12, 2012. Behm Pavement Maintenance, Inc., was the low bidder at a cost of $87,738.80. The council awarded the project at the May 7th council meeting. The contractor started working on July 11th and has already finished crackfilling most of the roads. He is currently working on sealcoating and striping parking lots. Once the lots are completed, he will return to finish crackfilling the remaining roadways.
