In an effort to control the increasing loss of land fill space in Illinois , the City of Geneva adopted a volume-based waste collection and curbside recycling program. This program, which began on July 1, 1992, allows residents to manage their disposal costs while encouraging Genevans to reduce, reuse, and recycle their waste.

A waste "sticker" is attached to each 33-gallon bag or can of refuse set at the curb for collection. The sticker price includes the cost of collection and disposal of one container of waste and the cost of collection of recyclable materials. Collectibles are set out at the curb by 7:00 a.m. once a week for pick-ups.

Geneva became one of fourteen (14) State of Illinois municipalities to be awarded the "Role Model" citation in 1998. The honor was based on a 95% participation rate of recycling, a 58% diversion rate from the local landfill, and the outstanding performance by Geneva residents, businesses, schools, and industries in the cooperative program of recycling.

For further information contact Recycling Coordinator Dan Dinges at 630-232-1501.
