Fire Prevention

Knowledge assists prevention.

Through education and safety regulations the Geneva Fire Department strives to prevent the loss of life and property. Inspections of existing commercial, multi-family residential and institutional buildings for life safety and fire hazards are performed through the bureau. Inspectors review plans for new building construction and conduct site visits to conformance with fire codes and standards. The bureau also oversees the department's public education programs.

Does your family have an emergency escape plan for your home?  When was the last time you had a drill?  Do your children know what to do in an emergency?  How to use a fire extinguisher?  How and when to call 911?  If your answer to any of these questions is “I’m not sure” you should consider having a Home Safety Inspection done.  The Geneva Fire Department offers free Home Safety Inspections to its residents.  A firefighter will go over any potentially hazardous conditions your home may have along with checking your smoke detectors, reviewing how a Carbon Monoxide detector works and reviewing a safe evacuation plan with you and your family.  Inspections are voluntary and are done by appointment only by calling (630) 232-2530 to schedule.
