Business Assistance
The Economic Development Department provides services and valuable information to help businesses locate or expand within Geneva; these include a detailed community profile, resource guide for businesses, extensive demographics and traffic count reports. If you have further questions about locating your business in Geneva, please contact us.

Available Inventory
The available building and property inventory database is provided as a complimentary service to Geneva property owners and the business community. The databases have been integrated with LOIS (a national economic development building, site and community database system). For each available site you will find property images, utility information, ESRI demographics, and more. Geneva property owners may update or add their building or land information at any time. For a custom report, contact the EDD at 630-232-7449.

Employer's Database
The EDD maintains a database of all businesses located within Geneva's city limits. The department uses the database to communicate with our businesses, update the downtown business directory signs, and populate the online Business Directory (which can be searched by business category or alphabetically). Information can be submitted or updated by completing the Employer's Database Form.

Downtown Business
With over a million square feet of commercial space, our Downtown Shopping District is recognized across the country as one of America's best downtown areas. The City of Geneva works diligently to maintain the charm of the district while promoting further business development in our downtown. Plan your visit with the Explore Geneva tab on this page, or contact us to assist in locating your business here.

The Economic Development Department works in conjunction with the Chamber of Commerce to promote Geneva as a tourist destination. Our department also maintains the Explore Geneva section of the website which highlights a number of attractions, events, lodging, as well as shopping and dining information. The department is also responsible for a portion of Geneva's tourism funds generated by the hotel/motel tax of Geneva's hotel properties. Of this 5 percent tax, the Geneva Chamber of Commerce receives 3 percent for general tourism marketing. The city uses the additional 2 percent to promote Geneva as a destination for groups and meetings. If you would like to see something added, removed, or changed to the Explore Geneva portion of the website, please contact our department.

The City of Geneva owns the electric, water, and sewer utilities which eases development planning. Electricity is provided at rates which are lower than those paid by similar users in surrounding communities. In 2008 the City constructed a reverse osmosis membrane filtration plant (sized for expansion) which reduced water hardness levels to 6 grains. The Wastewater Treatment Plant treats 4 to 5 million gallons of wastewater per day (2.2 billion gallons treated in 2012). The City maintains compliance of the NPDES permit at an average of 98 percent efficiency. The City Industrial users should complete the "Pre-Treatment" form to identify any needs. Accounts will be set with the Finance Division with planning for connection through the Public Works Department. Information on utility contacts is found in the Business Resource Guide. Contact Nicor Gas for assistance with natural gas connections.
