The Historic Preservation Commission shall promote the educational, cultural and economic welfare of the public by ensuring the preservation of historic structures that define the history and culture of the City of Geneva.

Historic Preservation strengthens the economy of the City by protecting, defining, and enhancing sites, monuments, locations, structures, and neighborhoods that are significant in the history of the City by ensuring new construction, redevelopment and adaptive use projects are compatible with the community's historic character in terms of scale, building materials, site design and exterior features.
The Historic Preservation Commission reviews any project, that requires a building permit application, and involves exterior alterations to building located within the Historic District or individually identified as a landmark property.
