Downtown Shopping District Programs
Business Improvement and Retention Committee
The Business Improvement and Retention Committee (BIR) has been instrumental in keeping communication alive between downtown businesses, overseeing a downtown Block Captain program, planning merchant meetings, and an annual Frontline Training program for businesses. If you’d like to be involved with the BIR, contact the City's Business Development Specialist Jamie Heflin at 630-938-4555 or BIR Chairperson Atala Toy at 630-208-6001.

Block Captains
Block Captains help facilitate communication between BIR and merchants. In addition to distributing information about upcoming programs, they can act as a liaison between merchants who have concerns and the committee or city staff. Being a block captain can help you build your business - as you network with your neighbors, cross referrals increase. If you'd like to be a block captain, please contact Eric Ott at Geneva Running Outfitters at 331-248-0221.

Downtown Facebook and Pinterest Groups

The BIR has created a private group on Facebook for Geneva's downtown merchants to share matters of common interest as well as a Pinterest page where the public can view many of Geneva's merchants in one place. BIR Chairman Atala Toy owner of Crystal Life Techonology has provided the following info to help more Geneva merchants get involved.

The Facebook Group is a "closed" group, meaning people cannot join unless they are invited by a current group member. If you're a downtown merchant and would like to be a member please send an email to stating your name, position, and store.

In addition to the Facebook Group, the BIR Committee has also created a Pinterest page, GenevaShopsIL. If you're a downtown merchant and would like access, please click here to learn more.

To learn about using Pinterest for your business, check out this great handout from SnapRetail.

Customer Friendly Hours Banner for Geneva, IL Hours
The Economic Development Department encourages merchants to consider evening hours and weekend hours. Many downtown shops stay open late on Thursday evenings.

Customer Friendly Hours

The City of Geneva owns the blue and red special “Customer Friendly Hours – OPEN” banners that can be seen throughout the downtown shopping district. These were purchased with the goal of providing some assurance to customers that stores would be open when they wanted and to help the City promote the district in a unified way. See the CFH Participation Form to view more details about the program.

Restaurant Hours
Based on information received from Geneva restaurants, the City maintains a list of Restaurant Hours to help businesses refer customers to open restaurants. These hours are subject to change without notification.

Sunday Hours
Let shoppers know that you are open on Sunday. We post a list of downtown shops and restaurants with Sunday hours here.

Trick or TreatTrick or Treat sign
Downtown Trick or Treating is held the Thursday prior to Halloween, unless Halloween falls on a Thursday, in which case it is on Halloween. Download a sign for your window to let trick or treaters know they can stop in your business.

On Halloween, the Geneva Police Department recommends Trick or Treating hours from 3-7 pm.
