Economic Development

The Economic Development Department is responsible for all areas of economic development including business attraction and retention and managing efforts to support the future growth of the City. The Department creates and implements strategies and programs that aim to diversify the tax base, to promote private/public partnerships, and to stimulate investment. The Department works to implement the policies and goals adopted by the City Council that involve the continued development and redevelopment of the City. These policies include the Comprehensive Plan, Downtown/Station Area Master Plan, and Southeast Master Plan.

The Department also works to enhance Geneva as a destination and to promote the City as a desirable place to live, work, visit, and operate a business or hold a special event. Working with special event organizers to plan and promote special events, the Department manages the multi-departmental permit review process. The Department works with the Geneva Chamber of Commerce to attract visitors and promote business and serves as liaison to the Economic Development Commission and the Cultural Arts Commission.
