PRESS
RELEASE
13 August 2008
CRIME
PREVENTION ADVISORY
The Geneva community continues
to experience thefts and car burglaries, particularly targeting GPS systems as
well as any other valuables left in view.
The burglaries have occurred during both daytime and evening hours. In most cases, the burglaries have been a
“crime of opportunity” in that the offenders are seeking vehicles that have valuable
items (not limited to GPS systems) left in unsecured vehicles. Locations have included residential streets
and commercial parking lots.
Residents are reminded that
valuables should not be left in view in the passenger area and should be kept
in the trunk whenever possible. Also,
making sure to secure your vehicle will assist in preventing your vehicle from
being a target. Garage doors should be
closed at night as well.
Geneva Police ask all
residents to help keep our community safe and peaceful. Please lock your cars, close your garage door
and call 911 if you see or hear anything suspicious, particularly during the evening
hours.
