I will be moving to Geneva soon.  How do I start utility service with the City?
You can stop by City Hall (22 South First Street) or call us at 630-232-0854.  We will need the following information: your full legal name, the service address, the billing address, date you take possession of the property, day and evening phone numbers, employer, social security number, driver's license number, whether you will own, lease or rent, and whether the use of the property will be for residential or commercial use.  A deposit may be required.

How does garbage pickup work?
A garbage sticker must be attached to each container of garbage; i.e., bag or can.  The stickers cost $1.79 each and are available at City Hall and some stores in Geneva.  Check the refuse pickup schedule for your pickup day of the week.  There are no pickups on holidays.  If you have an unusual item for pickup, or your pickup was missed, contact Waste Management directly.

How does recycling work?
Recycling is free.  The previous tenant will leave you a blue bin to put your recyclables in on your garbage pickup day.  Additional blue bins are available for $4.40 at the Public Works Building, 1800 South Street, between the hours of 7 a.m. and 4 p.m. Monday through Friday.

I have always paid my utility bill by mail, but I would like to have the City automatically deduct my utility bill from my checking account.  Can the City do this?
The City has the process in place to perform this.  You must print out and complete an Authorization Agreement and then submit this form along with a cancelled check to the Finance Department during normal business hours. Contact Don Weis, the Director of Finance, with any questions.

I don't want to mail my City utility bill, but I cannot get to City Hall by 5 p.m., what can I do?
The City has two utility payment drop boxes for CITY UTILITY BILLS ONLY.  If your payment is on time, you can drop it in the box behind City Hall (enter off State Street) or Fire Station #2 on Fargo Boulevard, west of Randall Road.  Put your check and payment stub in an envelope so they do not get separated.

I received a yellow tag on my front door that says "Notice of Disconnection".  What do I do now?
This tag appears on your door 24 hours before the City discontinues utility services for non-payment.  If you wish to continue to receive City utilities, pay the balance due indicated on the tag by the date and time shown on the tag.  Failure to pay IN PERSON AT CITY HALL will result in disconnection.  Do not use the drop box, because it may take a day or two to post your payment to your account.  A reconnection charge is assessed to your account if you are disconnected by our linemen.  We should note here that this only happens to customers who are seriously delinquent in their payments, but once you receive the "yellow tag", you have just 24 hours to get paid up.  If you have any questions, do not wait until after you are disconnected, call the Finance Department at 232-0854.
