The applicant is requesting an Annexation, a Comprehensive Plan Amendment, Preliminary and Final Plat of Subdivision Approval, and Final Planned Unit Development Plan Approval to construct 45 affordable rental townhome units. The applicant, The Burton Foundation, has entered into a Real Estate Purchase Agreement with the City of Geneva to purchase the subject property. The Geneva City Council approved authorizing the sale of publicly-owned surplus land at its July 13 City Council Meeting. The City has also updated its fact sheet answering some common questions from residents regarding the agreement and proposed development.
A public hearing before the Planning and Zoning Commission was opened on Jan. 14 2021. The agenda packet, meeting video, and written public comments are available online. The public hearing will continue at the Planning and Zoning Commission meeting at 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 28 2021.
In strict adherence to Gov. Pritzker’s Executive Order 2021-01 (with exceptions permitted only for compliance with the Illinois Open Meetings Act), and 2021-03 (updated mitigation tiers and phases) prohibiting indoor meeting gatherings of more than 10 people; City of Geneva meetings are now virtual. Meetings are livestreamed for the public to provide the ability to contemporaneously hear all discussion, testimony and roll call votes of the open meeting in real time. While the public may not attend meetings in person, individuals wishing to provide comments or testimony may do so in advance (recommended) by sending an email to firstname.lastname@example.org. In addition, individuals may be recognized during the meeting (audio only) by accessing the meeting via the link provided on the meeting agenda.
