Union Pacific is building a third railroad line near the current UP-West railway tracks spanning from Peck Road in Geneva to West Chicago. Operations started in September 2022, and the overall project is expected to be completed in July 2024.
Jan. 26 Update
Due to an unforeseen utility conflict, the Union Pacific contractor has suspended replacing a large storm sewer pipe that runs underneath the train tracks near the South Street Athletic Fields on the north and Brigham Court on the south.
Construction has now shifted to a similar storm sewer project on Union Pacific right-of-way in between Gary Lane and Fargo Boulevard. Work began the week of Jan. 23 and should be finished by mid-February, weather permitting.
Operations continue on both banks of the Fox River to expand the train bridge.
Union Pacific also announced crews will be working along the tracks underneath the Randall Road overpass starting in late January. That project will not impact traffic.
