For the first time ever, Illinois will be holding its first sanctioned US Figure Skating National event right here in Geneva this summer at the Fox Valley Ice Arena, 1996 S. Kirk Road.
The Skating Council of Illinois will be hosting the Theatre On Ice Nationals, where 80 teams totaling more than 2,000 skaters from around the country are registered to compete Tuesday to Saturday, June 26-30. Competitors will attend with their coaches, guests, family and friends, so crowds in excess of 5,000 are expected. Mayor Kevin Burns will formally open the competition Wednesday, June 27 and also will participate as a guest judge for the freestyle programs.
Theatre on Ice will have a positive impact on Geneva and surrounding areas, with several hotels in the region already sold out. People traveling to participate or observe sporting events is the largest and fastest growing segment of the tourism industry.
Tickets are on sale for the public, and
promotional opportunities for businesses who want to be involved are available. These opportunities include program ad space, favor bag inclusion given to each skater, rink board signage, lobby signage and vendor tables. The promotional registration deadline is Wednesday, May 30.
