To our delight, "USA Today" shined a national spotlight on our city this week. The newspaper named Geneva as the best hidden-gem destination in Illinois. The Oct. 15 article "Perfect Towns for a Weekend Trip in Every State" includes a photo and tips for visitors.

The slideshow in "USA Today" features the Fabyan Windmill, a 68-foot treasure located at the Fabyan Forest Preserve. The windmill, built between 1850-1860, is well deserving of recognition. It is the best example of an authentic Dutch windmill in the United States. In fact, there are only a few in the world which have been lovingly restored to operate by natural wind energy like this one. "USA Today" suggests checking out the Fabyan Villa Museum and Japanese Garden which also are located at the beautiful Fabyan Forest Preserve on the Fox River. Please note, all three of these attractions are a great experience in Geneva, but check online for visiting hours.

At any time of year, no trip to Geneva is complete without exploring our shops and restaurants. Downtown Geneva is a unique shopping destination full of apparel, jewelry, home goods and gifts for any style. There are many specialty food stores to enjoy a sweet treat, whether you are in the mood for baked goods, ice cream, or, of course, chocolate. Please check our Explore Geneva web page for more tips about visiting. We agree the City of Geneva makes a perfect weekend getaway destination and it is an honor to represent Illinois.
