Powering Up

Power Restored
Geneva owns and operates its own electric utility, and we take great pride in providing reliable electric service to our residents and businesses. However, like all utilities, we are susceptible to outages caused by bad weather, animals, equipment issues and more. This blog is designed to provide updates on what caused outages after service has been restored. Large-scale incidents will be posted in real-time on the City's Alert Center on the our website homepage. Customers can subscribe to receive these updates via Notify Me.

The City has contracted with Utility Dynamics Corp. to replace underground electric cable in five areas of Geneva in 2019.

The contractor will be starting work the week of June 10 on the north side of East State Street (Route 38) between Longview Drive and Kirk Road.

The other project locations include:

  • Dunstan Road south of Fargo Boulevard;
  • Center Street between Grant Avenue and Anderson Boulevard;
  • Route 31 and Third Street intersection; and
  • The Mews and Kenston Court Townhomes on Seventh Street between Franklin and Fulton streets.

Scheduled power outages may be required during construction, and impacted residents will receive notification two days in advance. Crews will be working in either the public right-of-way or in utility easements. The expected completion date is Friday, Nov. 22, weather permitting. Final landscaping restoration will be finished by May 2020.
