A faulty underground cable knocked out power for 424 Geneva residential and business customers at 6:24 p.m. June 18 on the City's west side.
The outage area included the Randall Square and Eagle Brook subdivisions and businesses along Randall Road from Fabyan Parkway to Fargo Boulevard.
The Geneva Public Works Department was able to isolate the faulty cable and restored customers in stages throughout the evening. More than half the customers had electric service back on by 7:54 p.m., and the final residential section was brought back online at 10:16 p.m. The outage breakdown was as follows:
- 243 customers = 89 minutes
- 125 customers = 144 minutes
- 29 customers = 201 minutes
- 27 customers = 232 minutes
One resident asked last night on Facebook if the City proactively identifies bad underground cables. The City does indeed replace underground cable on an annual basis as part our electric system maintenance. Work is actually taking place now in various sections of Geneva, and more information is available on
our website.
The City appreciates everyone's patience as the Public Works Department worked to resolve the power outage.
