[ARCHIVED] June 29-30 - Strong Storm Causes Outages Across Geneva

Power Outage
A strong storm system knocked down tree branches and resulted in power outages across Geneva Saturday and Sunday, June 29-30. Here is the summary of what took place:

5:37 p.m. June 29
Location
Western Avenue, Fargo Boulevard, Meadows Road, Delnor Hospital, Geneva Commons and Fisher Farms
Cause/Solution
Tree branch hit ComEd circuit. The circuit was automatically re-closed.

Fargo Boulevard, Meadows Road, South Batavia Avenue, Fabyan Parkway
Cause/Solution
Western Avenue substation feeder breaker 1 tripped, cause unknown. Public Works was able to close the breaker.

Location
East side, including the business park, East State Street, Geneva East
Cause/Solution
Equipment failure on ComEd line feeding City's substation. Public Works was able to reset the system.

Cause/Solution
Faulty underground cable. Public Works crews isolated the cable between switches and restored service.

Cause/Solution
Equipment failure on ComEd line feeding the City's South Street and Keslinger Road substations. Public Works was able to switch the electric load to alternate sources.

East side, including Longview Drive, Foxwood Circle and Longmeadow Drive
Cause/Solution
The storm uprooted a tree, which fell onto a primary electric line. Public Works crews removed the tree and restored service.

Cause/Solution
Tree limbs fell into a power line. Public Works was able to clear the tree limbs and closed the fuse.
