Heavy construction equipment has been mobilized to South Street, and demolition of the culvert deck is scheduled to begin Thursday, Oct. 17.
The project will generate noise during the City's normal construction hours, but crews will be keeping dust to a minimum. Once the existing concrete slab is removed, workers will set concrete forms and reinforcement bars the week of Oct. 21.
Weather permitting, concrete pouring for the new culvert deck will take place the week of Oct. 28.
Once construction gets underway, the sidewalk in the area will be closed during the duration of the project.
South Street between Burgess Road and Southampton Drive has been closed since Aug. 9 for safety reasons after a sinkhole was discovered by the City. Engineering work took place during September.
The City is anticipating the roadway will be reopened by Wednesday, Nov. 20, weather permitting. While the project will be substantially completed, road striping and other ancillary work will still need to take place.
