Powering Up

Power Restored
Geneva owns and operates its own electric utility, and we take great pride in providing reliable electric service to our residents and businesses. However, like all utilities, we are susceptible to outages caused by bad weather, animals, equipment issues and more. This blog is designed to provide updates on what caused outages after service has been restored. Large-scale incidents will be posted in real-time on the City's Alert Center on the our website homepage. Customers can subscribe to receive these updates via Notify Me.

[ARCHIVED] Union Pacific Third Main Line Electric Projects Continue This Fall

The original item was published from October 22, 2019 4:02 PM to August 1, 2020 12:00 AM

With the Union Pacific Third Main Line scheduled to begin in summer 2020,  additional electric projects are on tap in downtown Geneva this fall.

Construction crews will be moving an electric pole and relocating underground utilities on and off from late October into November.

About 12 spaces in the daily fee commuter parking lot located off Route 31 just south of the train tracks will be closed Wednesday to Friday, Oct. 23-25 and again during the week of Oct. 28.

Traffic lane closures also will be necessary for that stretch of Route 31 as well as Third Street south of the tracks. Motorists should use caution when driving through the area.

Starting next year, Union Pacific is planning to build a third railroad line from West Chicago to Peck Road in Geneva. For more information, visit the Union Pacific Third Main Line Project construction page on the City's website.
