Powering Up

Power Restored
Geneva owns and operates its own electric utility, and we take great pride in providing reliable electric service to our residents and businesses. However, like all utilities, we are susceptible to outages caused by bad weather, animals, equipment issues and more. This blog is designed to provide updates on what caused outages after service has been restored. Large-scale incidents will be posted in real-time on the City's Alert Center on the our website homepage. Customers can subscribe to receive these updates via Notify Me.

[ARCHIVED] South Street Reopens To Traffic Nov. 19

The original item was published from November 19, 2019 4:38 PM to September 1, 2020 12:00 AM

South Street has been reopened to traffic Nov. 19 after being closed since August following the discovery of a sinkhole on the culvert crossing bridge deck.

The bridge project has been substantially completed and unrelated sanitary sewer projects in the area also have been finished. Construction equipment and barricades were removed around 3:30 p.m. Nov. 19, and street sweeping was taking place late this afternoon.

While the project is substantially completed, road striping and other ancillary work will occur in the future.

South Street between Burgess Road and Southampton Drive was closed Aug. 9 for safety reasons after a sinkhole was discovered by the City. Engineering work took place during September, and demolition/reconstruction began Oct. 17.

The City appreciated everyone's patience the past several months as the City addressed this unexpected road construction project.
