During this challenging time for businesses, Geneva merchants have demonstrated an amazing amount of generosity and goodwill to the community. A quick social media review of local retailers shows that many are staying connected and making a difference too. These acts have helped to sustain healthcare workers and other essential workers, and thank them as they continue to put their own lives at risk every day. Other efforts have brightened the days of Geneva citizens, who are adjusting to a new normal and could use a little boost of hopefulness.
In March the owner of Floral Wonders supported local restaurants and its patrons by adding a free beautiful bouquet with any carryout meal that was picked up. “Spreading some much needed cheer today,” Eva Kamieniaks posted on Facebook.
Another generous act of kindness is being made by 360 Flavor and Spice, who is delivering free bundles of spices by request because they “want to keep flavor in every meal,” while you are cooking more at home. The owners encourage ordering a custom selection for your favorite healthcare worker. The donations will be available, while supplies last.
The Sugar Path donated numerous cupcakes and cupcake jars to Northwestern Medicine Delnor Hospital through the Go Fund Me campaign, “They’re Giving Everything, Let’s Give Them a Meal” with a dual mission of supporting local businesses and healthcare workers. Geneva restaurants such as Gia Mia, Bien Trucha and Old Towne Pub have also participated.
Scentcerely Yours donated candles to Delnor Hospital for healthcare workers labeled, “We Appreciate You!” Country Naturals partnered with Peaceful Parlour to bring 50 care packages to the staff. The thoughtfully packaged gifts included French soaps, bath salts, lotion, and cuticle cream.
The Little Traveler donated chocolate bunnies and other candy to Delnor’s healthcare workers, so every employee would have something sweet to take home for Easter.
Image Awards, Engraving, and Creative Keepsakes donated trophies engraved with the wording, “You Got This.” Delnor healthcare workers could select their trophy from a table with a sign which read, “You are seen. You are appreciated and our communities cannot thank you enough. It is a tough row to hoe, but you got this!”
Through their Feed the Frontline campaign, Moveable Feast and Company has donated more than 600 healthy meals to healthcare workers at Delnor Hospital and Central DuPage Hospital. Donations to help purchase the meals can be made on their website.
ProFusion has donated numerous healthy vitamin packed shakes to essential workers including Heartland Blood Center, Sherman Hospital, and the St Charles Post Office. Through their Share the Love campaign they are taking donations to supply shakes and TBombs to essential workers and inviting the public to nominate the next group of employees.
These stories about local retailers making a difference have been discovered over the last few weeks. Please take some time to check the Facebook and Instagram accounts of your favorite shops and restaurants to see what they are up to and stay connected. Patronize their shops while staying safe, so that they can make the sales they need to survive this challenging time. Every purchase helps.
