Operations kicked off this week with the Illinois Department of Transportation’s State Street (Route 38) bridge resurfacing project.
Two lanes of traffic, one in each direction, will remain open throughout construction of the bridge that spans the Fox River in downtown Geneva. The project will be done in two phases with work starting in the outside lanes and then later shifting to the interior lanes.
Work began May 26 as crews worked on removing of joints in the pavement and sidewalk. Projects on tap the week of June 1 include finishing the joint removal process along with possible pavement and bridge deck patching.
IDOT announced one side of the State Street sidewalk will be closed during working hours, but the other side will remain open to pedestrians. Signage will be posted to direct people accordingly.
The project is anticipated to be completed in August, weather permitting.
