Power Outage
Lightning and faulty underground cables resulted in two power outages that started late June 20 on Geneva's east side.

The first outage occurred around 9:30 p.m. impacting 21 customers near Hill Road, Whitfield Drive, Bank Lane, and the northwest corner of Kirk Road and State Street (Route 38). Public Works crews located the failed section of cable and were able to restore service by 11:51 p.m.

The second outage, which was more significant in nature with 901 customers losing power, took place just before 10:30 p.m. June 20. The outage was within areas of Division Street to Manchester Course and East Side Drive to Kirk Road, along with a portion of Kirkwood Drive. Crews isolated the faulted sections of cable and restored power in stages.

About 86 percent of the customers were brought back online by 1:46 a.m. June 21. The remaining 126 customers had electric service restored between 4:30 and 6:10 a.m. June 21.

As a reminder, power outages taking place after-hours or on weekends should be reported to the Geneva Police Department's non-emergency number at 630-232-4736. Police will then dispatch the appropriate Public Works Department staff to investigate the problem. Calling the Police Department is more efficient than reporting outages to the City's social media channels or online request tracker system, which are not monitored 24 hours a day.
