IDOT's State Street Bridge Resurfacing
The Illinois Department of Transportation has informed the City the agency hopes to finish the State Street (Route 38) bridge resurfacing project within the next week, weather permitting.
On Aug. 5, IDOT modified the traffic pattern that shifts westbound drivers to the interior lane while eastbound motorists continue to use the exterior lane. Please use the caution when driving through the area.
Here is what IDOT has on tap the week of Aug. 3:
- Clean and seal pavement patching joints;
- Clean and seal approach joints;
- Install preformed joint seal at abutments;
- Possibly strip the bridge deck; and
- Possibly pour concrete for the north side sidewalks, parapets, pedestals and outside deck repair areas.
The bridge resurfacing began in late May. Check back on the blog for project updates. For more information, visit the
State Street bridge construction web page.
City's Sanitary Sewer Replacement Project
The Geneva Public Works Department has finished the downtown State Street sanitary sewer replacement project and is waiting for the concrete poured in late July to cure.
Geneva began replacing 300 feet of sanitary sewer July 6 on the outside westbound lane on Route 38 from First Street (Route 31) to River Lane. The project was done at the same time as IDOT's bridge construction to limit the disruption for motorists and area businesses.
Public Works will be testing the pavement strength and hopes to reopen the road segment Friday, Aug. 7 if results come back favorably.
For more information on the sanitary sewer replacement, call the City's Public Works Department Water Division at 630-232-1551.
