Geneva Public Works responded to two issues that caused about 430 customers to lose power overnight from Jan. 31 to Feb. 1 on the City's west side.
Impacted customers were located in the Randall Square subdivision and Randall Road south of Kaneville Road.
An underground cable fault that occurred at 11:54 p.m. Jan. 31 tripped a South Street substation circuit. Crews were able to closed the substation circuit and isolate the section of faulted cable.
Service was restored in stages to a majority of customers within one to four hours. However, when the line was re-energized, 11 homes had power flicker before going out again due to a bad transformer. Those 11 homes were without service for more than 12 hours due to the transformer needing to be replaced.
As a reminder, residents should call the Geneva Police Department's non-emergency phone number at 630-232-4736 to report power outages taking place after-hours and on the weekends. Police will dispatch the on-call Public Works Electric Division staff to respond to matter.
FYI, the City's online request tracker and social media accounts are not monitored 24 hours a day.
