Celebrating Geneva's Art in April

Posted on April 14, 2021 at 1:58 PM by Cate Tracy

The warmer days of spring are here and we are called to spend a little more time outside. The last two weeks of April are a good time to break out of your winter hibernation and discover the beautiful sights and sounds of Geneva.

In celebration of local artists, the Geneva Foundation for the Arts has partnered with participating downtown businesses to display selected works in storefronts through Art Under Glass. Artwork will be viewable through storefront windows on State and Third streets from Saturday, April 17 through Saturday, May 1.

Come enjoy the decked out window displays of Geneva's boutiques, which will have an extra flair this month, thanks to contributions from the Greater Geneva Art Guild. Window shopping is great fun in Geneva, due to the number of fabulous independent shops and the small business owners which make them shine.

Your day will be even better if you go into a few stores to treat yourself to something new. If you are looking to purchase artwork, check the Explore Geneva Map for shopping tips. Original artwork is for sale at Artemisia, Proud Fox Gallery and Frame Shop, The Treasure Shop, Haven Interiors Studio, Gallery 28 Fine Art and more. To learn more about Art Under Glass, visit Geneva Foundation for the Arts.

Art enthusiasts may also be interested in a free Virtual Public Art Tour by the Geneva History Museum at noon Tuesday, April 13. Registration is required for this event. This is a fabulous opportunity to learn the stories behind legendary local art, such as the secret grotto and the murals at the Kane County Courthouse.

If you cannot join the virtual tour on April 13, the Geneva History Museum plans to make it available to watch on their YouTube Channel in the future. The Museum also offers a Self-Guided Public Art Tour available for purchase on their website for only $3.

If you are lucky, you might smell the delicious aroma of our independent restaurants, chocolate shops, and bakeries hard at work while you are here. You might just have to go in to have the full Geneva experience. We strongly encourage this sampling of edible art as part of your art filled day. You will hear the chatter of visitors grabbing a coffee or resting on a shaded bench, and others having brunch in an outdoor dining area. We hope you will come to see us, enjoy the art, and take it all in.
