Powering Up

Power Restored
Geneva owns and operates its own electric utility, and we take great pride in providing reliable electric service to our residents and businesses. However, like all utilities, we are susceptible to outages caused by bad weather, animals, equipment issues and more. This blog is designed to provide updates on what caused outages after service has been restored. Large-scale incidents will be posted in real-time on the City's Alert Center on our website homepage. Customers can subscribe to receive these updates via Notify Me.

Mother's Day is Sunday, May 9 and there is still time to find something great to give the mothers and mother figures in your life. If you time your Geneva visit just right, you can experience two merchant events next weekend that will make your gift hunting an enjoyable experience.

The Beer Cellar in downtown Geneva has come up with a great concept for one to efficiently find that gift and get complimentary gift wrapping too. They are hosting a Mother's Day Pop-Up Market from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, May 8 with local vendors. Bring the kids to help pick out the gift and make a card at a kid-friendly station. The Beer Cellar also will have a make-and-take mimosa station along with staff to assist you in choosing the right craft beer or wine for mom.

Next weekend also happens to fall on a First Friday, when participating merchants will stay open until 8 p.m. and have special discounts, raffles, and giveaways in the stores. First Fridays are a great reason to have a girls night out and drop in a few shops to see what is new. After shopping, you can stop to enjoy some wine or a decadent dessert from one of Geneva's patios to kick off Mother's Day weekend in style.

Speaking of fun, we have entered the season of perfect weather for a lavish brunch. The City of Geneva has allowed restaurants to expand their outdoor dining in public spaces. Restaurants now have many more comfortable spots to enjoy the fresh spring air with your coffee or mimosa any day of the week. For a full list of Geneva's restaurants, check the "Eat" tab on the Explore Geneva Map.

For a chance to win five different raffle baskets, valued at over $100 each, come back to shop and dine from Friday to Sunday, May 21-23 during Play Your Hand Geneva. Experience Geneva IL, a group of downtown merchants, has organized this matching card game that involves earning playing cards with purchases from participating shop/restaurants and trading the cards to increase your chances of winning. More details are available at Experience Geneva IL.

Good luck in all of your shopping adventures this month and have a Happy Mother's Day.
