About 663 Geneva customers lost power at 6:45 p.m. Aug. 8 after a tree branch fell down and took out an electric wire on the City's west side.
The outage impacted customers in the Eagle Brook subdivision, Allendale subdivision, near Geneva Middle School South, Sunset Road, Meadows Road, and South Randall Road.
Geneva's Public Works Department isolated the down wire and switched to a different feed to bring 97% of the customers back online in phases between 7:20 and 9:30 p.m. Crews then fixed the damaged electric wire to restore service to the remaining 14 customers by 10:55 p.m.
As a reminder, residents should report power outages that take place after-hours and on weekends by calling the Geneva Police Department's non-emergency number at 630-232-4736. Police will then dispatch the appropriate Public Works Department personnel. The City's online request tracker system and social media accounts are not monitored 24 hours a day.
