An electric service disruption occurred May 21 due to a broken electrical cutout, which is a combination of a fuse and a switch on overhead power lines.
About 19 customers lost service at 11:35 a.m. in the area of Spring Street, Spring Court, Harrison Street, Sandholm Street and Kansas Street on the City's east side. Geneva Public Works crews responded by isolating the riser and closing the loop from an alternate power feed. Service was restored by 12:50 p.m.
More than 1,000 customers experienced a momentary bump in service as the City's substation breaker opened and closed automatically.
As a reminder, the Public Works Department's regular business hours are from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. If an outage occurs after-hours, on weekends or holidays, residents can call the Geneva Police Department's non-emergency number at 630-232-4736, and police will dispatch the appropriate on-call Electric Division personnel.
The City's online request tracker system and social media accounts are not monitored 24 hours a day.
