Powering Up

Power Restored
Geneva owns and operates its own electric utility, and we take great pride in providing reliable electric service to our residents and businesses. However, like all utilities, we are susceptible to outages caused by bad weather, animals, equipment issues and more. This blog is designed to provide updates on what caused outages after service has been restored. Large-scale incidents will be posted in real-time on the City's Alert Center on the our website homepage. Customers can subscribe to receive these updates via Notify Me.

ComEd Utility Relocation Map
Commonwealth Edison will begin relocating utility lines near the Geneva Metra Station and surrounding area starting Monday, Aug. 7.

ComEd's work is in preparation for the future Union Pacific Third Main Rail Line construction, which is anticipated to start in 2018.

The utility work, which is scheduled to be completed by Wednesday, Oct. 4 weather permitting, should have a minimal impact on traffic. A majority of the project will take place outside the roadway and parking lots. Click on the image above to view a larger version of the map.

ComEd's statement:
"Beginning Aug. 7, ComEd will commence a facility relocation project along the west side of Third Street between Route 31 and Metra tracks, as well as on the south side of Route 31 between Third Street and Metra tracks. This project is being performed as part of the Union Pacific Metra 'Kress to Peck - Third Main Track Construction' project, which will add an additional rail line to the existing rail corridor between Peck Road in Geneva and Route 25 in West Chicago. Please contact 630-576-6200 or 1-800-Edison-1 if you have any questions. People will be asked to leave a message that will be returned by someone knowledgeable about the project."
