The Geneva Public Works Department responded to two power outages stemming from a strong storm that rolled through the region Sept. 20.

The first, larger outage occurred at 6:06 p.m. after a lightning strike knocked out service to 630 customers in the Fisher Farms subdivision, Ridge Pointe Drive, Camden Street, and North Geneva Commons. Public Works closed a switch and was able to restore service by 7:06 p.m.

The second incident, reported at 7:35 p.m., occurred when a large tree fell on power lines impacting 20 customers living on Logan Avenue, McKinley Avenue and Union Street. Public Works had to deenergize the power circuit to allow crews to remove the tree. Power was brought back online by 12:38 a.m. Sept. 21.

The next Geneva brush collection is scheduled to take place in October. A schedule and more information is posted on the City website.

As a reminder, Public Works Department regular business hours are from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday to Friday. If an outage occurs after-hours, on weekends or holidays, residents can call the Geneva Police Departments non-emergency number at 630-232-4736, and police will dispatch the appropriate on-call Electric Division personnel. Residents also should call the Police Department to report street flooding and significant tree damage that is blocking roadways.
