Powering Up

Power Restored
Geneva owns and operates its own electric utility, and we take great pride in providing reliable electric service to our residents and businesses. However, like all utilities, we are susceptible to outages caused by bad weather, animals, equipment issues and more. This blog is designed to provide updates on what caused outages after service has been restored. Large-scale incidents will be posted in real-time on the City's Alert Center on the our website homepage. Customers can subscribe to receive these updates via Notify Me.

The original item was published from September 29, 2022 4:19 PM to January 1, 2023 12:00 AM

Third Main Line

Union Pacific is building a third railroad line near the current UP-West railway tracks spanning from Peck Road in Geneva to West Chicago. Operations started in September, and the overall project is expected to be completed in July 2024.

Sept. 29 Update

The Union Pacific contractor is continuing to stake the project area this week, work with various utility companies, and mobilize for the upcoming construction. The Fox River Trail west bank detour was established and an east bank detour will be forthcoming, possibly as early as Thursday or Friday, Oct. 6-7.

Tree removals near the Route 31 overflow commuter parking lot and the Geneva Wastewater Treatment Plant have been pushed back to the week of Oct. 10.

Construction will begin in October on the Fox River train bridge spanning the Fox River, according to Union Pacific.
