Powering Up

Power Restored
Geneva owns and operates its own electric utility, and we take great pride in providing reliable electric service to our residents and businesses. However, like all utilities, we are susceptible to outages caused by bad weather, animals, equipment issues and more. This blog is designed to provide updates on what caused outages after service has been restored. Large-scale incidents will be posted in real-time on the City's Alert Center on our website homepage. Customers can subscribe to receive these updates via Notify Me.

[ARCHIVED] Geneva Commons Celebrates 20 Years

20th AnniversaryGeneva Commons opened on Sept. 5, 2002 and recently celebrated its 20th anniversary. To mark the occasion, Mayor Kevin Burns proclaimed “Geneva Commons Weekend” and urged all citizens to extend their appreciation to Geneva Commons for their investment and commitment to our community.

Geneva Commons is a premier shopping and dining destination featuring 60 national brand and specialty shops, beauty and health services, and a variety of dining options in an open-air mall setting located at Randall and Bricher roads.

The Geneva Commons development was possible due to a public-private partnership. In 2001, the Geneva City Council approved an economic development incentive agreement featuring a sales tax-sharing program designed to offset development costs and secure new tenants.

Throughout the years, the Commons has worked to meet the needs of retailers and consumers. It withstood the financial crisis of 2008-09 and adjusted to accommodate the changing shopping landscape. In 2018, the Commons transformed an underutilized common area into a park-like space to host various special events including movie nights, fitness seminars and concerts in an outdoor setting.

Geneva Commons works to provide access to favorite brands while fueling creativity and success of small businesses. Recently, the Commons assisted Wet Nose, an original tenant, with relocation and expansion goals. It welcomed finalists from the Uncommon Collective Pop-Up Contest, a program that awarded a free location during the summer months and a cash prize for the design and store build-out. Four Pop-Up Shop winners have now become permanent tenants. Coming in 2023, Hacienda Real restaurant will be serving up the flavors of Mexico, and other new stores and dining ventures are also in the works.

Whenever possible, please shop and dine locally. Your purchases not only support our business community, but local sales tax helps the City provide police/fire protection, maintain our streets and fund other critical municipal services. With sales tax being one of our top revenue sources, you can have a direct impact on making Geneva a wonderful place to live, work and visit.

You can check out the Geneva New Business Map for the latest retailers and restaurants that call our community home or the City's online business directory for more information.
