Union Pacific is building a third railroad line near the current UP-West railway tracks spanning from Peck Road in Geneva to West Chicago. Operations started in September, and the overall project is expected to be completed in July 2024.
Nov. 18 Update
Union Pacific said tree removals along the UP-West line should be completed by Wednesday, Nov. 23, weather permitting. The installation of silt fencing and erosion control will continue through mid-December.
The project contractor is working to resolve some utility issues near on Western Avenue near Sunset Park.
Union Pacific will be inviting residents, business owners and community stakeholders to learn more about the Third Main Line project during a community open house. The event is planned for February 2023. Stay tuned for more details.
The Fox River Trail remains open to walkers and cyclists, but a detour route was established to accommodate the construction. Workers have witnessed pedestrians disregarding the trail closures. As a reminder, the public should not go around the physical barriers for the closed sections of the trail. The Union Pacific contractor has heavy equipment in the area that can pose serious safety concerns.
Please follow the detour signage to enjoy the trail.
