Thirty-two customers lost power at 8:30 a.m. Dec. 11 in downtown Geneva after a squirrel made contact with a power line.
The outage impacted customers on Third, Fourth, Fifth, State, Hamilton, and Peyton streets.
Geneva Public Works refused the cutout, which is a combination of a fuse and a switch used in primary overhead feeder lines to protect distribution transformers from current surges and overloads. Service was restored by 9:15 a.m.
As a reminder, residents should report outages occurring after hours and on weekends to the Geneva Police Department non-emergency number at 630-232-4736. Police will then dispatch the on-call Public Works personnel. The City does not monitor social media channels and the online request system 24 hours a day.
