The incident was dispatched at the Country House restaurant for a patient choking and unresponsive. Tri-Com advised that the patient was receiving the Heimlich prior to our arrival. Officer Boedigheimer was first on the scene and was performing the Heimlich on this patient.
Upon arrival of fire department personnel, this patient was assessed and found to be unresponsive, pulseless and apneic. The above crews initiated life saving measures. CPR was begun and the patient’s airway was assessed. Crews attempted intubation without success due to a foreign body airway obstruction. Crews were able to remove the obstruction using forceps. CPR was continued on the patient for a short period of time until the patient began to breath on his own and his pulse returned.
The members from the fire and police departments acted in a professional manner and saved the life of this patron. The citizens of the City of Geneva should feel safe and secure at all times in the capable and caring hands of these professionals that routinely respond to all emergencies in the City.
Battalion Chief Rod Johnson
