The City received word that MetroNet's contractor has officially started installation of its new fiber optic network Wednesday, Nov. 15. Crews began working on the rear lot line on 550 and 580 Renee Court and will likely be moving throughout the Williamsburg, Blackberry and Stonebridge subdivisions in the coming days.
MetroNet is installing the fiber in utility easements after the City approved a franchise agreement with the company earlier this year to offer cable TV, Internet and phone service to Geneva. These easements are typically a strip of land running along the street, the sidewalk, the rear lot line or between two lots.
The first project area (GE020 on the above map) is generally bounded by Bricher Road, State Street (Route 38), Williamsburg Avenue and Randall Road.
