On December 22, 2018, at 1:37 a.m., Geneva Police and Fire Department personnel were dispatched to a serious accident with injuries, involving two vehicles, in the 200 block of East State Street (Route 38) in Geneva.A Batavia resident, 28 years of age, was driving a silver 2014 Mazda CX-5 northbound on Crissey Avenue when he failed to stop for the stop sign at the intersection of East State Street. A Geneva resident, 22 years of age, was driving a silver 2005 Honda Accord eastbound on East State Street. The Mazda CX-5 entered the intersection without stopping, striking the Honda Accord. The Honda Accord was pushed into the front yard of a residence in the 200 block of East State Street, on the north side of the roadway. The vehicle came to rest after striking some bushes and cement stairs outside of the residence. There appeared to be no structural damage to the residence at this time.Both drivers were transported to Northwestern Medicine Delnor Hospital in Geneva, with serious injuries. The role of alcohol and/or drugs is being investigated as a possible contributing factor in the accident; however, no arrest has been made at this time. The Geneva Police Department in partnership with the Geneva Emergency Management Agency had to close East State Street for approximately three (3) hours to investigate the crash and process the scene for any evidence.
