[ARCHIVED] Kane County Holding First Recycling Event In 2019

Electronics Recycling Kane County

Kane County is hosting a recycling event for electronics and books from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday, April 13 at the Kane County Branch Court office, 540 S. Randall Road, St. Charles.

The wait time is likely to be less than 5 minutes for this event.

This event is for electronics and books only. The next shredding and paint event will be on Saturday, May 11.

Electronics collection will include free recycling of computers, laptops, stereos, DVD players, printers, keyboards, mice, phones, electronic games, holiday light strings and more, all of which can be recycled at no charge.

Televisions (of any size, and any age) and computer monitors will be collected for a fee. The cost of recycling television sets and computer monitors, measured diagonally, is $25 for screens under 21 inches and $35 for screens 21 inches and over. Participants can pay onsite with cash or credit card.

Electronics are collected and recycled by eWorks Electronics Services, a non-profit whose mission is to employ individuals with developmental disabilities to sort and disassemble the electronic equipment. Payment for TVs and monitors helps fund the group's mission.

Books of any age or condition - both hardcover and paperback - are free to drop off. They are sorted and redistributed by Pacesetter Books, a church-based non-profit that assesses books for reusability and recycles those that cannot be redistributed.

People also can bring pre-shredded documents to the book recycling area for recycling; contents should be in a paper bag, stapled or taped shut.

Kane County also has two electronics recycling drop-off locations that are open weekdays with the exception of holidays.

For more information, contact Kane County's Recycling Coordinator Jennifer Jarland at 630-208-3841 or via email.
