[ARCHIVED] IDOT Reschedules State Street Bridge Resurfacing Start Date To Late May

State Street Bridge

A material procurement delay will push back the Illinois Department of Transportation’s (IDOT) State Street (Route 38) bridge resurfacing project start date by two weeks.

The construction schedule, which was determined by the State and not the City of Geneva, now calls for work to begin the week of May 25 and be completed in August, weather permitting. The bridge spans the Fox River in downtown Geneva.

Two lanes of traffic, one in each direction, will remain open throughout construction. The project will be done in two phases with work beginning in the outside lanes and then later shifting to the interior lanes. Signage and traffic control measures will be installed in advance of construction.

The project involves concrete patching areas of the bridge structure and approach slabs, replacing the bridge joints/seals, resurfacing the bridge deck and applying pavement markings.

People can expect traffic delays and may want to consider alternate routes once construction gets underway. Drivers traveling through the work zone should use caution and allow extra time to reach their destination.

Construction is expected to generate loud noise and a minimal amount of dust. Side streets near the bridge will remain open, but vehicle access to some of the businesses located within the work zone may be impacted depending on the traffic lane pattern.

For more information, visit the State Street bridge resurfacing web page on the City’s website. People can subscribe to receive IDOT project updates via the City’s "Pardon The Progress" construction blog.

Residents and community stakeholders can direct questions to IDOT engineer Chris Olson via email.
