The Geneva Police Department announced a new initiative to assist residents who may be at risk of becoming lost, disoriented, or unable to find their way home on their own due to their special needs status.

The Police Department’s Citizens At Risk Program is free to Geneva residents and is completely voluntary.

People can register an at-risk family member’s information and photo, which will be stored in the Police Department’s database. With time being of the essence in locating a missing person with special needs, the information will be immediately available in Geneva Police squad cars. Details also can be shared efficiently with other public safety agencies. The quick distribution of information increases the likelihood of reuniting a missing person with his/her family.

Program applications are available on the City’s website or can be picked up at the Geneva Police Department, 20 Police Plaza. Once a completed application is submitted, a Geneva Police officer will schedule a meeting in person or over the phone with the applicant. During the meeting, additional information may be added to the application and a current photograph will be requested. The officer will confirm with the family once the citizen at risk has been entered into the database.
