A 23-year-old Batavia man riding a skateboard was critically injured after being struck by a car at 8:12 p.m. March 21 in the 1500 block of Crissey Avenue (Route 25), just north of the Fabyan Windmill in Geneva.
According to multiple witnesses, the man was heading southbound riding on a skateboard in the roadway. A 73-year-old Batavia man was driving his green, 2001 Chevrolet Tahoe southbound on Route 25. According to the driver’s statement at the scene, he did not see the skateboarder due to the darkness along that stretch of roadway.
The Geneva Police Department, along with Geneva Fire Department, Batavia Police Department and Batavia Fire Department, were dispatched to the accident. Witnesses on the scene began CPR until relieved by paramedics. The skateboarder was transported to Northwestern Medicine Delnor Hospital in Geneva where he remains March 22 with life-threatening injuries.
The driver, who was not injured in the accident, has been fully cooperating with the ongoing police investigation.
The Kane County Accident Reconstruction Team, in conjunction with the Geneva Police Department, is investigating the accident. The case remains under investigation, and no charges have been filed against the driver at this time.
