[ARCHIVED] Skateboarder Dies From Injuries Sustained In Route 25 Car Accident

Police News - New Car

A 23-year-old man riding a skateboard that was struck by a car March 21 on Route 25 in Geneva has died from injuries suffered in the accident.

Joshua Farwell, 23, whose last known listed address was in St. Charles, was pronounced dead at 12:40 a.m. March 24 at Northwestern Medicine Delnor Hospital in Geneva. The Kane County Coroner’s Office performed an autopsy, which indicated the preliminary cause of death was due to multiple injuries. Toxicology samples have been sent to a forensic lab for further analysis, according to the Coroner’s Office.

No charges have been filed in the case, which remains under investigation by the Geneva Police Department, Kane County Accident Reconstruction Team and the Coroner’s Office.

Geneva Police have confirmed with Farwell’s family that he was living in Batavia at the time of the crash.

Farwell was heading southbound on his skateboard at 8:12 p.m. March 21 in the 1500 block of Crissey Avenue (Route 25) just north of the Fabyan Windmill, according to multiple witnesses. A 73-year-old Batavia man was driving his green, 2001 Chevrolet Tahoe southbound on Route 25. According to the driver’s statement at the scene, he did not see the skateboarder on the roadway due to the darkness along that stretch of Route 25.

Witnesses on the scene began CPR until relieved by paramedics, who then transported him to Delnor Hospital. The driver, who was not injured in the accident, has been fully cooperating with the ongoing police investigation.
