[ARCHIVED] Meeting To Highlight East State Street Construction

Public Works News

The City of Geneva will be hosting a public information meeting in September to preview the Illinois Department of Transportation’s (IDOT) upcoming East State Street reconstruction project.

Residents and merchants are invited to the meeting, which will take place from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 14 at the Geneva Public Works Department, 1800 South St. People planning to attend the informal, open house-style meeting must wear a face mask inside the building.

Starting in spring 2022, IDOT is planning to reconstruct State Street (Route 38) from Kirk Road to the Fox River. The overall project includes roadway widening, streetscape work, traffic signal, and street lighting upgrades. The City will be relocating and upgrading underground electric and water utility infrastructure as part of the construction.

The proposed improvements do not require home or business relocations but will necessitate right-of-way and easement purchases. The project also will have some minor impacts on Old Mill Park, located along the east bank of the Fox River north of State Street.

Construction is scheduled to be substantially finished in 2024 with punch list items to be completed the following year.

People who cannot attend the Sept. 14 meeting can submit public comments to the City by 5 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 28. More information is available on the East State Street Reconstruction web page on the City’s website.
