[ARCHIVED] Capture The Magic Of The Season With The Geneva Christmas Walk

Christmas Walk Carolers

Yuletide cheer fills the winter air in 2021 when Geneva prepares for its annual Christmas Walk Friday, Dec. 3, which is presented by the Geneva Chamber of Commerce with the support of the City of Geneva.

Friday evening begins with Graham’s Chocolates First Candy Cane of the season being presented with great fanfare. In honor of Graham’s founder, Bob Untiedt, the parade is being named Bob’s Candy Cane Parade. Untiedt’s greatest loves besides his family were music and confections. So, what better way to marry these two loves than have a drum and bugle-led parade of more than 100 loyal bell ringing customers to present the first candy cane of the season to Geneva Mayor Kevin Burns. In remembrance of Bob as Geneva’s own Chocolate Man, Graham's is proud to continue with this long-standing tradition.

This will be followed by the arrival of Santa Lucia, the Swedish symbol of the season, who will offer Swedish cookies to merry-makers. A TREE-lighful Celebration happens when the Christmas Tree on the Courthouse lawn is lit, a light show explodes, and then young and young at heart will wait with anticipation as Santa Claus arrives atop the Geneva History Museum. Santa will then welcome visits from excited children in his new Geneva home. Santa’s previous mobile home on James Street is being retired, as it needed great repair to become safe for 2021. Salvageable pieces were donated to organizations that build homes for those in need.

The Geneva Visitor Center, 10 S. Third St., will be transformed into a Winter Wonderland for visits from excited children. Visits with Santa are by reservation only, which can be reserved on the Chamber's website beginning Monday, Nov. 1.

Amongst the twinkling lights and fresh greenery lined streets, chestnuts are roasting over open fires, carolers are filling the night air with seasonal favorites, a traditional candy cane pull is close by, a recreation of the Guinness record-breaking candy cane will be available for all to enjoy, and a live nativity scene is taking place. Dazzling window displays brimming with gift ideas invite shoppers to stroll through shops as merchants serve traditional holiday refreshments.

A Geneva Christmas is one not to be missed.
