Police Investigate Fatal Motorcycle Crash

Police News - New Car

A 70 year old man from Bloomingdale, Illinois, riding a 2015 Harley Davidson motorcycle was killed in a two vehicle crash on Illinois Route 38 on June 17, 2023, at 1:48 pm.

The preliminary investigation indicates the Harley Davidson was traveling in the eastbound lanes of Route 38.  A 2008 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck traveling westbound veered into the eastbound lanes east of the intersection with Crissey Avenue and struck the motorcycle in a head on collision.  At this time, it does not appear speed or alcohol were factors in the crash.

The rider of the motorcycle was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.  He was transported to Northwestern Medicine Delnor Hospital by Geneva Fire Department personnel and pronounced deceased at 2:17 p.m. by hospital staff.

The Chevrolet Silverado was driven by a 24 year old man from Aurora, Illinois and occupied by three additional  passengers.  The driver and passengers were evaluated on scene by medic personnel.  No injuries were reported by the occupants of the Silverado.

The Geneva Police Department anticipates charges will be forthcoming based on the preliminary investigation.  Names of the drivers will not be released until families have been notified.

The Geneva Police Department and the Kane County Accident Reconstruction Team are actively working to investigate the crash. The intersection and portions of Route 38 remain closed while law enforcement personnel are on the scene. The Geneva Emergency Management Agency is assisting with traffic direction.

Geneva Police and Fire Departments were assisted by the Batavia Police Department.

Questions should be directed to Geneva Police Deputy Chief Matthew Dean by calling 630-232-4736 or emailing mdean@geneva.il.us.
