The next phase of the Williamsburg Avenue resurfacing project is scheduled to get underway Wednesday, Sept. 13 and will impact traffic around the elementary school.Pavement milling will start from the west entrance of Williamsburg Avenue School to Randall Road. The construction, which will reduce the roadway down to one lane intermittently, will run through at least Friday, Sept. 22. Motorists should expect delays and allow extra time to reach their destination. The City notified Geneva Community Unit School District 304 regarding the project and placed a message board on Williamsburg Avenue to alert drivers of the upcoming road work. Parents who do not live in the immediate vicinity of Williamsburg Avenue are asked to access the school from the east (State Street/Williamsburg Avenue). After this stretch of roadway is finished, construction will shift on Williamsburg Avenue from the school east to State Street. All road work schedules are weather-dependent and subject to change. The City is working with Geneva Construction on 23 road resurfacing and drainage projects included in the 2023 street improvement program, which started in August and is expected to be completed in October. People can subscribe to receive road work updates via “Notify Me” on the City’s website.
